Engineering Students Shone at International Olympiad of Metropolises

The Hong Kong team won two gold medals and six silver medals in the 2nd International Olympiad of Metropolises (IOM), a multidisciplinary competition for students aged 14 to 18 covering four disciplines: mathematics, informatics, chemistry and physics.  Wong Tsz Chun and Wong Yik Chun from the Faculty of Engineering, CUHK repesented Hong Kong and each attained a silver medal in the informatics competition.
      
 The second International Olympiad of Metropolises was held in Moscow from 4 till 8 September 2017.  Teams from 36 capitals and metropolises of the world took part in the competition, including participants from Abu-Dhabi, Almaty, Astana, Baku, Banja Luka, Belgrade, Bishkek, Bratislava, Budapest, Vienna, Gaborone, Hanover, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Düsseldorf, Zagreb, Jerusalem, Krakow, Leipzig, Lima, Luoyang, Milan, Minsk, Moscow, New-Delhi, Beijing, Riga, Rome, St. Petersburg, Sofia, Istanbul, Tallinn, Tel-Aviv, Helsinki, Chengdu and Shanghai.  Hong Kong participated in the IOM for the first time.

The Hong Kong team members were selected from the best-performing contestants in this year's International Mathematical Olympiad, International Olympiad in Informatics, International Junior Science Olympiad and International Physics Olympiad.
