Student Development and Guidance Service

The Student Development and Guidance Service of the Faculty of Engineering is established to support and facilitate Engineering students in adjusting to the university life and study.

Individual Consultations & Workshops

Our Assistant Student Guidance Managers provide one-on-one consultations for students. Additionally, activities and workshops on various aspects will be organized during the semesters, including:

  • Personal Growth and Development
  • Interpersonal Relationships and Communications
  • Study Skills and Strategies
  • Etc.

All Engineering students are welcome to register with the consultation service when it is needed! Any personal information you provide will be handled with strict confidentiality.

Want to schedule an Individual Consultation?

  • Students will receive an email confirmation via their CUHK email accounts with the details of the first appointment (including date, time, and location of the meeting).
  • Arrive on time for the scheduled session(s). Each session lasts approximately 30 - 45 minutes. The Assistant Student Guidance Manager will schedule the next follow-up session with you when needed.

Aim

The programme is designed to pair Senior Engineering students with Year 1 Engineering students to offer peer guidance, assisting junior students in successfully adjusting to university life.

Nature & Programme Design

Senior Buddies

  • All undergraduate students in Year 2 or above or postgraduate students are welcome to join as Senior Buddies.
  • A Certificate of Appreciation will be awarded to Senior Buddies, who have fulfilled all requirements, at the end of the academic year 2026-27.
  • Participation as Senior Buddies will be recorded in the Student Development Portfolio (SDP) of the Office of Student Affairs, CUHK.

Junior Buddies

  • All undergraduate or postgraduate Year 1 students who wish to receive peer guidance from senior students are welcome to join as Junior Buddies
  • Year 1 students will then be paired with a Senior Buddy to support their adjustment to university life.
  • A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to Junior Buddies at the end of the academic year 2026-27.

Important Notes

  • Senior Buddies are required to attend the first meet-up, engage in organizing at least one sharing session for Junior Buddies, and meet individually with their Junior Buddies at least twice per semester during the buddy pairing period.
  • Junior Buddies are required to attend the first meet-up, participate in at least one sharing session organized by the Senior Buddies, and meet individually with their Senior Buddies at least twice per semester during the buddy pairing period.
  • All Senior and Junior Buddies are encouraged to join the Festival Gathering in each semester to build and strengthen bonds with fellow Engineering buddies.
  • All Senior and Junior Buddies will be invited to join the programme-end meet-up to collect the certificate of appreciation/ participation and provide feedback of the buddy programme.
