Three Engineering Professors named RGC Senior Research Fellow or Research Fellows

Three scholars from Faculty of Engineering have been awarded prestigious fellowships under the Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS) and Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) 2026/27 in recognition of their distinguished research achievements.

Professor Liao Wei-Hsin, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Mechanical and Automation Engineering from Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, was named in the RGC Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS). His research project is “Auxetic Structures for Energy Harvesting and Absorption”.

Professor Dou Qi, Associate Professor from Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Professor Duan Liting, Associate Professor from Department of Biomedical Engineering were named in the RGC Research Fellow Scheme (RFS). Prof. Dou’s research project is “Advancing Robotic Surgery Autonomy from Basic Actions to Complex Manipulations in Dynamic Endoscopic Environments”, while Prof. Duan’s project is “From Static to Tunable: An Ambient Light-Gated Gene Therapy Platform for Glaucoma”.

CUHK will receive a fellowship grant of about HK$8.5 million per SRFS award and HK$5.6 million per RFS award to cover the salary costs for relief teachers and provide resource support to advance these frontier research initiatives over a period of 60 months.
