理大中大國際發明展掃32獎

在瑞士日內瓦舉行的科研盛事「第四十七屆國際發明展」,本港大學的科研團隊先後報捷。理大及中大本屆分別獲得18個及14個獎項,其中理大的人工智能紡織品檢測系統「聰明眼」獲頒兩項特別大獎;中大團隊一項已獲政府採用、將於今年年中開始在智慧路燈系統安裝的網絡編碼技術,則獲頒兩個評判嘉許特別金獎。

日內瓦發明展 中大科研項目奪14獎

在瑞士日內瓦舉行的「第四十七屆國際發明展」上,本港大專院校大放異采。中文大學的十三項科研項目,囊括十四項大獎,其中網絡編碼研究所的「分批稀疏編碼─構建智慧城市」項目、醫學院外科學系與工程學院的「內窺手術機械人」,同時獲評判嘉許特別金獎。

理大、中大、浸大科研揚威日內瓦發明展 共奪35個獎項

「第四十七屆國際發明展」由上周三至今日(4月10日至14日),一連五日於瑞士日內瓦舉行,表揚全球的創新科技發明,活動吸引來自超過40個國家/地區的逾800個參展單位參與。 本港5間大學及7間科研機構,共近120個的發明項目參展,共獲得56個金獎及53個銀獎。其中理工大學、中文大學及浸會大學的發明,獲得一共35個獎項,三間大學的得獎項目範疇,涵蓋人工智能、智慧燈柱、醫療等方面。

Engineering Students Won the Champion at the 8th Greater China Design Competition

An engineering team has won the Champion at the 8th Greater China Design Competition which was held in Macau on 23-24 March, 2019.  They have designed a set of self-propelled prototypes for energy relay under the theme of "Energy Relay System”. Participants were required to design and develop a scaled-down version of four self‐propelled devices powered by different types of energy sources, which can collectively complete a relay race in the shortest period of time.  

The CUHK team, led by Dr. Li Yiyang, Prof. Xu Dongyan and the assessor Mr. Martin Leung, has competed among eight contesting teams representing eight universities from Hong Kong, Macau and China.  Over the past eight years, CUHK has won five Champions, one First Runner-up Award and one Most Innovative Award.

The Greater China Design Competition is an university student design competition among Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau universities. The aim is to providing a platform for engineering students to demonstrate and share their engineering knowledge to others, while in parallel strengthen their presentation skills by designing an innovative prototype on the topics ranging from environmental to social issues.

Engineering Researchers and Alumna Receive Awards from the Chinese Association of Automation and MIT Technology Review

Two members of the Faculty of Engineering have each received an award from the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) and a Faculty alumna has been awarded a distinction by MIT Technology Review for their remarkable achievements. The Faculty is committed to developing innovative technology to improve peoples’ lives and these awards add to the wide recognition of its excellence in artificial intelligence and robotic research.

Mechanical and Automation Engineering’s Team Receives Honours from CAA

Professor
Jie Huang, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, was honoured with the CAA Excellent PhD Thesis Supervisor Award and Dr. Wei Liu of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering with the CAA Excellent PhD Thesis Award. The CAA is one of the first and top national associations in China. The CAA Excellent PhD Thesis Award aims to promote innovative research and development of automation in China by recognising PhD students in the field of automation. The CAA Excellent PhD Thesis Supervisor Award is to acknowledge thesis supervisors who have made significant contributions to enlighten young scholars. A total of 10 excellent PhD theses were selected out of 500 in the field of automation in 2018. Prof. Huang and Dr. Liu are the only award recipients from Hong Kong and their award winning thesis is “Cooperative Output Regulation of Networked Multi-Agent Systems with Switching Topology”.

Distinguished alumna named one of China's top 35 innovators by MIT Technology Review  

Dr. Jianping Shi, a distinguished alumna of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has been selected as one of China's top 35 innovators under age 35 by the world-leading scientific magazine, MIT Technology Review. Dr. Shi joined CUHK through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme in 2011, and obtained her PhD degree at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 2015 with over 10 research publications. She is the research lead for the Intelligence Vehicle Business Unit of SenseTime Group Limited, with more than 50 researchers working in R&D of autonomous driving systems and ADAS product.

中大成功研發安全高效電池

目前常用的鋰離子電池,是由金屬如鋰、鈉、鉀等跟氧氣組成的空氣電池,但受到金屬本質的危險性及低生命周期而窒礙了發展。中文大學機械與自動化工程學系教授盧怡君領導的研究團隊,以有機材料鉀聯苯配合物,取代金屬為負極,研發出安全、高效和長壽的空氣電池,在經過三千次循環使用後,仍然有九成九以上的高效能電量。

中大研「空氣電池」 助發展再生能源

發展供應穩定的再生能源如太陽能、風能等,可紓緩氣候暖化,但現時用作儲存能源的鋰電池成本高昂,不利再生能源發展。中大以有機材料製成「空氣電池」,令儲電成本降低至只有鋰電池的十分一,有助再生能源廣泛應用,未來可配合家居再生能源發展。

現時用作儲存能源的鋰電池成本高昂,成發展風力發電及太陽能發電等可再生能源的其中一個障礙。最近中文大學機械與自動化工程學系的研究團隊,成功研發出安全有效又低成本的有機空氣電池,儲電成本僅鋰電池約十分一。研究團隊預計兩年內會製作出大型演示模型,屆時將會與風力電廠或太陽能電力公司合作,投入商用市場,促進可再生能源發展空間。

鋰電池是目前最常用、成本較高的儲能方法。最近,中文大學機械與自動化工程學系副教授盧怡君的研究團隊,研發出全球首款既安全、成本又低的有機「空氣電池」,該研究成果已於國際學術刊物「Nature Materials」刊登,並製出小型發電模型,預計兩年內實驗團隊會製作大型演示模型,屆時將會與風力或太陽能電力公司合作,投入商用市場,家用太陽能系統亦有發展空間。
